Development of Educational Materials for an Effective Blood Donor

Abstract
BACKGROUND: The purposes of blood donor questionnaires are to supply safe blood, to prevent donation-related complications, and to protect recipients from any harm. Although there is a standard process and criteria for selecting blood donors, its massive content makes it difficult for blood center workers to learn the processes involved. Donors sometimes answer without enough understanding of the intentions of the questionnaire. Therefore, we planned to develop educational materials (i.e., Prezi presentation and flipchart) for donors and workers of blood centers.

METHODOLOGY: Materials were prepared through review of previous educational materials and articles. Educational needs of workers were asked during a survey. Difficulties of donors in understanding the questionnaires were incorporated into the material. A pre-survey of the blood donors about the educational materials was conducted along with this study for the interviewers.

RESULTS: Educational materials for interviewing the blood donors were developed through reviews, surveys, interviews, and consultations. Workers educated by these materials replied that these made them understand the donor-questionnaires more. Hopefully, this will be effective for educating new workers. A Prezi presentation for interviewers and blood donors and flipchart for interviews were developed.

CONCLUSION: Educational materials for donor questionnaires for blood donors and interviewers were developed. A Prezi presentation and flipchart were deemed to be helpful for the new staff in blood centers. A Prezi presentation for blood donors will be helpful for understanding the importance of donor questionnaires.
